Why this matters

Japanese encodes viewpoint. The same transfer is described differently depending on whether something goes outward, comes toward you/your group, or is received.

1. Track direction from the speaker's viewpoint

あげる: giver gives outward. くれる: someone gives to me/my in-group. もらう: receiver receives.
