~たり~たりする: Representative Activities
List representative actions with VたりVたりする without implying an exhaustive sequence.
- Plain past forms.
Useful for describing what happened during a day, test cycle, weekend, or investigation without listing every action.
1. Start from plain past, replace final た/だ with たり/だり
The form resembles past because it is built from the same stem, but ~たり is not itself past tense.
2. Think 'things like A and B'
Study the examples and identify the structural pattern before relying on the English translation.
Natural: I do things like investigate logs and test.
Structure: logs investigate-and-such — test-and-such — do
Representative activities.
Natural: On the weekend I did things like read books and play games.
Structure: weekend topic — read-and-such — game-do-and-such — did
Outer します carries tense.
