TRACK 8 · 8-6
もう / まだ + Something / Nothing
Use もう and まだ with completion/state, and build indefinite pronouns such as 何か and 何も.
- Past/negative forms and question words.
Status questions constantly ask 'already?', 'not yet?', 'anything?', and 'nothing?'.
1. もう and まだ depend on polarity/context
もうしました = already did. まだしていません = haven't done yet. まだあります = there is still some.
2. Question word + か gives an unspecified something/someone; + も with negative gives nothing/no one
Study the examples and identify the structural pattern before relying on the English translation.
Natural: Is there some problem / any problem?
Structure: something — problem exists?
何か = something/anything.
Natural: There is nothing.
Structure: anything + also — does not exist
何も + negative.
Natural: It already finished.
Structure: already finished
