Privacy Policy

Manabi Kōbō is a free Japanese-learning project. This policy explains what the site stores, what may be processed when you use particular features, and what choices you have.

1. Information stored in your browser

Many study features use localStorage or IndexedDB on your own device to remember course progress, workbook/drawing work, interface preferences, recall state, and similar study data. This information normally stays in that browser unless a feature explicitly sends data to the server.

2. Server processing

When you use server-backed features, normal web-server logs may include technical information such as IP address, request time, browser/user-agent information, requested URL, and error details. Uploaded images used by OCR features are processed to perform the requested scan. Manabi Kōbō is designed not to require an account for normal study use.

3. Course certificates

If you issue a Guided Japanese Course completion certificate, the service creates a certificate record and public verification identifier so the QR/verification URL can confirm that Manabi Kōbō issued that course-completion record. The certificate is not identity verification, an academic degree, a professional license, or JLPT certification.

4. Optional Google and support services

Google advertising/measurement tags and the Buy Me a Coffee support widget are treated as optional on Manabi Kōbō. On a new browser they are not loaded until you choose “Allow optional services.” If you choose “Essential only,” the learning site remains available without those optional services. You can change the choice later using Privacy settings in the footer.

5. External links

Manabi Kōbō links to third-party learning resources and websites. Their privacy practices are controlled by those providers, not by Manabi Kōbō.

6. Your choices

You may reject optional services, change your consent later, and clear Manabi Kōbō browser storage using your browser controls. Clearing local site data can also erase locally stored study progress and preferences.
