~ほうがいい: Should / Better To
Give basic advice with Vたほうがいい and Vないほうがいい.
- Plain past and negative.
This supports recommendations without expressing strict obligation: you should check first; you shouldn't change that yet.
1. Advice is weaker than obligation
Vたほうがいい = it is better to do V. Vないほうがいい = it is better not to do V.
2. Give useful recommendations
Study the examples and identify the structural pattern before relying on the English translation.
Natural: You should check first.
Structure: first checked side — good
Positive advice uses past form.
Natural: You shouldn't change it yet.
Structure: yet change-not side — good
Negative advice uses Vない.
3. Advice clinic
Write 10 problems and one ~ほうがいい recommendation for each.
