READING PRACTICE
Furigana as Scaffolding, Not a Destination
Furigana is most useful when it keeps you inside authentic Japanese text while your kanji recognition catches up.

Reading support works best when it helps you remain in the Japanese rather than replacing the Japanese.
Remove one obstacle at a time
If you understand a word when you hear it but cannot yet read its kanji, furigana bridges exactly that gap. You can keep the original sentence intact while adding the pronunciation information you are missing.
Let familiarity build naturally
Repeated exposure changes what you need from the annotation. A reading that once required furigana may later become automatic. The support did its job by keeping the word visible long enough for recognition to develop.
Use the right support for the moment
Some sessions are for kanji recall; others are for reading comprehension. Hiding furigana can be useful for the first goal, while showing it may be exactly right for the second.
